Raharas’ Great Victory
It was an easy win for Rahara NS on a warm day in Knockcroghery last week. Tom Killion was the referee. Cloonfour NS had lots of support but the Rahara fans were louder. Cloonfour scored first but the Rahara lads kept on fighting. They all kept tackling and started to score. Before long we were in the lead. During the first half Thomas and Daniel O’ both scored goals. The half-time score was 3-8 to 0-2 for Rahara.
After half-time things got a little more interesting! The scores had changed. A lot! Rahara played all their subs, including all the boys in third class. Cloonfour started to come back but were no match for Rahara! The scores were now 5-11 to 4-5 when the whistle blew. We had won the Roscommon County Final!

One of the best football matches that I have watched recently was the Comortas na mBuncol final between Dysart NS & Finea NS last Saturday morning in the Downs G.A.A.
Both teams lined out hoping to be winners. Dysart were of course favourites, as they were the defending champions having won the final for the last 2 years & they were hoping to make it 3 in a row. Finea, too, were hopeful as they had given a good display of football against Dysart in October of last year when they had played them in the earlier rounds of the competition. Even though Dysart were winners on that occasion Finea felt that they had improved since then especially since their decisive victory over Rahugh NS in the replay of the semi-final.
Both teams started very evenly with Dysart being the first to register a point. The teams were on equal footing until James C ‘s goal crashed to the net to put Dysart into a comfortable lead. From then on Dysart took control of the game & were never in danger of losing that control. Half time saw Dysart with a 2 5 to 5 lead over Finea.
The 2nd half saw Dysart stretch their lead even further with outstanding football being played by each member of the team but in particular by Pauric, Stephen & Cashel, who as always, was solid in goals. The rest of the team, Shane, Ben & Eoghan, gave their all & were ably helped by Eoin, Adam G, Aaron, Adam K, Sarah, Anna & Celine. The full time whistle saw Dysart 6 9 to Finea’s 1 6 & Dysart had completed the hat trick.
Great celebrations ensued & the John Rigney Cup was presented to Pauric, the team captain, by Seamas Ó Faoileán, Leinster Council.
