One of the best football matches that I have watched recently was the Comortas na mBuncol final between Dysart NS & Finea NS last Saturday morning in the Downs G.A.A.

Both teams lined out hoping to be winners. Dysart were of course favourites, as they were the defending champions having won the final for the last 2 years & they were hoping to make it 3 in a row. Finea, too, were hopeful as they had given a good display of football against Dysart in October of last year when they had played them in the earlier rounds of the competition. Even though Dysart were winners on that occasion Finea felt that they had improved since then especially since their decisive victory over Rahugh NS in the replay of the semi-final.

Both teams started very evenly with Dysart being the first to register a point. The teams were on equal footing until James C ‘s goal crashed to the net to put Dysart into a comfortable lead. From then on Dysart took control of the game & were never in danger of losing that control. Half time saw Dysart with a 2 5 to 5 lead over Finea.

The 2nd half saw Dysart stretch their lead even further with outstanding football being played by each member of the team but in particular by Pauric, Stephen & Cashel, who as always, was solid in goals. The rest of the team, Shane, Ben & Eoghan, gave their all & were ably helped by Eoin, Adam G, Aaron, Adam K, Sarah, Anna & Celine. The full time whistle saw Dysart 6 9 to Finea’s 1 6 & Dysart had completed the hat trick.

Great celebrations ensued & the John Rigney Cup was presented to Pauric, the team captain, by Seamas Ó Faoileán, Leinster Council.

This story is centred around Nelson Mandela and the captain of the South African rugby team. The director of Invictus is the famous Clint Eastwood. The movie belongs to the drama genre.

It starts off with South Africa getting hammered at the first game of the World Cup. But Nelson Mandela acted by Morgan Freeman still has faith in South Africa and has a talk with Luscumbe Belinda the captain of South African rugby team who is acted by Matt Damon. The film is extremely exciting and has an exciting twist at the end. Will South Africa win the World Cup? Can South Africa win the World Cup against all the odds? Watch it and find out!

I would give the movie four stars because it is an amazing film. I think it is suitable for viewers from 4th class up because it might be a bit complicated for younger children.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

This movie takes place on an island out in the Atlantic. Flint Lockwood [played by Bill Hader], is an inventor who  invents a machine that can make food from water taken from clouds in the sky. The question is will his invention help the town or destroy it?

The people of the town eat nothing but sardines so the Mayor proposes constructing an adventure park called ”Sardineland” and invites an American News Crew to come to the island to do a feature on his new theme park.

When the news crew arrive, their weather girl Sam Sparks [played by Anna Faris], meets Flint, likes his inventions and they both fall in love with each other. She likes his talking monkey  assistant Steve and his new spray on shoes. The plot revolves around Flint and Sam trying to save the world before it is destroyed by Flints machine.

This film  is a  comedy. It also has elements of surprise, romance and science fiction. I think this movie is really good in the way it uses animation and imagination. I would give this movie a  9/10 for it’s comedy and creativity. The reason I did not give this movie 10/10 was because I thought some aspects were too unreal and unbelievable, like the food falling from the sky. But other than this small flaw I really enjoyed the movie.

 Lionel Messi

The Greatest Footballer Alive

Lionel Andrés Messi was born 24th June 1987 in Rosario, Argentina. He is fairly small in stature standing at just at 5’7” but he is a brilliant striker & so talented as he can play well anywhere on the pitch. He plays for his country and for Barcelona.

When Lionel Messi was 13 years old he needed medicine to help him grow but his family could not afford it. Being so promising at football, Barcelona Football Club offered to pay for his treatment. In return, Messi could come to Barcelona. As soon as Messi heard this, he was so excited and knew he had to go. In 2004-05 he broke the La Liga (Spanish Premier League in football) record for the youngest footballer to play a league game and to score a league goal. Barcelona won La Liga on his debut season. His breakthrough season was in 2006 when they won the UEFA Champions League. Messi is being compared to Maradona and Pele, & other South American world class football legends.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

Written by John Boyne.

This story is centred around two children, one young boy called Bruno who has an older sister called Gretel & another boy called Shmuel. Bruno was only nine when he & his family moved to the country. This meant that he had to move into a new house and make new friends. But that was his biggest problem; there were no children around where he lived.

One day he went for a walk in the woods and crossed over a bridge and eventually he came to a big fence. There was a little boy sitting the other side of the fence, in what looked like a striped pyjamas. This little boy was called Shmuel. Bruno and the little boy became friends with Bruno visiting the little boy each day & giving him food. We see the boys become friends, talking to each other, sharing & comparing their lives. They each wonder about the other & Bruno, in particular, is curious to find out waht life is like for Shmuel.

This is a sad movie with Bruno & Schmuel becoming friends despite all the horrible things that are happening around them. Both are very lonely & they like each other even though they are very different.

I would rate this movie at 8/10. The very end of the movie is disturbing & might not be suitable for younger children because of this.

                 Anfield on the 2/5/2010   by S. M. Dysart N.S.

Liverpool started this game with Javier Mascherano at right back and Daniel Agger at left back because of injury to players and after their 120 minutes game on Thursday night. Torres was one of those injures.

Chelsea started with top scorer Didier Drogba up front and Anelka and Kalou on either side.

Liverpool stated the better and applying pressure with Aquilani first skimming the crossbar. But after 33 minutes Drogba intercepted Gerarad’s back pass and dribbled it past Reina and slotted home the goal.

After that Chelsea took complete control and after 53 minutes Lampard tapped home another goal after great play by Ivanivic and Anelka who provided the cross. Then the game was Chelsea’s and they came close again with Lampard and Anelka. Chelsea used good tactics to win with Malouda and A.Cole up the left wing racing passed Mascherano, at every chance, who out of his nomal position.

Chelsea are now favourites to win the league as they only need a win next Sunday to lift the trophy.

Lenister V Toulouse

Toulouse 26 Leinster 16

1 / 5 / 2010 Le Stadium, Toulouse, France                                        by Ben, Dysart N.S.

Lenister were coming into this game without Jonathon Sexton, Luke Fitzgerald and Sean O’Brien. The starting team had few injury’s but the injured players themselves might have made a difference to the game. The starting team was 1 Cian Healy 2 John Fogerty 3 Stan Wright 4 Leo Cullen 5 Nathon Hynes 6 Kevin Mc Loughlan 7 Shane Jennings 8 Jamey Heaslip 9 Eoghan Redden 10 Shaun Berne 11 Isa Nacewa 12 Gordon D’arcy 13 Brian O’Driscoll 14 Shane Horgan 15 Rob Kearny. The game was started at 3:45pm with a long straight kick off by Skrela which was received by Heaslip. He in turn passed it to Berne, whose kick high into the Toulouse half was caught by himself but he was tackled into touch by Heymans. Toulouse put the first points on the board through Skrela, after a penalty, from a difficult angle. Toulouse 3 Leinster 0. Leinster battled on trying to put points on the board. But unfortunatly for Leinster the next points come from the boot of Skrela again who makes no mistakes of knocking the ball over. Toulousse 6 Leinster 0.

In the 24th minute Leinster nearly get a try but Clerc forced Reden to spill the ball. Leinster again give away another penalty and again Skrela made no mistake of putting another 3 points on the score board. Toulouse 9 Leinster 0.Van Der Linde replaced Healy to steady the scrum and Byrne got a chance to put 3 points on the board and he makes no mistake. Toulouse 9 Leinster 3.In the 40th minute Leinster get a penalty and Byrne barely lifted the ball but it finally went over to leave it Toulouse 9 Leinster 6 going in at half time. Leinster started the second half well piling the pressure on but Toulouse recovered well. Eventually Leinster caught the ball but Toulouse put the ball wide and Medard chiped over Redden but Redden managed to out pace the Frenchman and touch the ball down. However much to the disappointment of the Lenister fans Owens does not give the try.In the 43rd minute Tolouse gave away a penalty on the half way line Kearney stepped up, took it and made no mistake in putting it over and for the first time both teams were level. Toulouse 9 Leinster 9. Skrela however got a chance to put Toulouse ahead but his attempt squeezed to the right of the post. Jauzion then drove through Leo Cullen to claim 5 points. Toulouse 14 Leinster 9. Skrela again knocked over the conversion to make it Toulouse 16Leinster 9. Stan Wright was then forced off through injury and Healy was back on. Skrela managed to side step Byrne and scored under the posts. Toulouse 21 Leinster 9. Again Skrela made no mistake and kicked it over the bar. Toulouse were now well in front Toulouse 23 Leinster 9.

In the 64th minute Heaslip managed to go over for a try. Byrne’s kick was perfect but it still left Leinster seven points short. Toulouse 23 Leinster 16. Skrela again got another chance to put 3 points on the board and once again he made no mistake. Toulouse 26 Leinster 16

Leinster battled on but just didnt have enough time to catch up.

Final score: Toulouse 26 Leinster 16

There were many candidates for man of the match such as Nacewa, Jauzion, Redden and Heaslip but the title went to Skrela who deserved it.

How to train your Dragon.

By CeeDee, Dysart N.S.

The name of this movie is ‘How to train your Dragon’. Dreamworks, the company who produced this movie, have produced many good movies such as “Shrek” and “Flushed Away” and I think this movie is just as good as them.

This movie was directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, I think there was two directors because one was needed to direct the graphics and scenes and the other director was used to create the storyline.

The genre of this movie is a cartoon/comedy. It is also in 3D, now I myself haven’t seen any 3D movies before but I wasn’t scared at all!

Now I would have to recommend this movie to boys and girls over the age of 7 mainly because there was only 2 or 3 scenes out of the movie that were a bit scary, but it is definitely a family movie.

The name of the main character was “Hiccup” a Viking aged between 13 or 14 who’s mother had died when he was younger leaving his father, the Chief Viking, to rear him.

How to train your Pet Dragon is about a young Viking named Hiccup who lived on an island that was always being ransacked by dragons. But then one night when the island is being destroyed by dragons, Hiccup catches a “Nightfury”, a type of dragon, with his wooden contraption of some sort, but he doesn’t have enough courage to kill it so instead he “trains” it because no one knows anything about Nightfury’s.

I definitely liked Dreamworks Dragons! It was absolutely brilliant! And yet it wasn’t actually that scary. If it was up to me I would give this movie 9 out of 10.
