Rationale

After doing my research on my Masters in 2009 “A Case Study Investigating the Teaching and Learning Benefits of the Interactive Whiteboard for Both Student and Teacher”, one of my conclusions was that many children feel they do not get enough chance to interact with the IWB in class time especially if they are a big class group.
The IWB is great to use for whole class demonstrations. After showing the children how to use a piece of software/application/Internet resource on the IWB some children are chosen to demonstrate or interact with it in a whole class situation. This applies in many class situations. However the question remains. Are children really interacting with the IWB?

I feel that sometimes the children felt they did not get sufficient time to interact with it in a whole class situation and therefore I wanted to do something about it. I have one classroom 2 classroom PCs and an eBeam IWB.

For the purpose of this project I have  begun to allow children to work in small groups. I have 30 children in the class so I have divided  them in to 6 groups of 5. Children engage in station teaching. Two of the stations are ICT related – The IWB and the classroom PC. Both methods are helping with collaborative learning and the social process but more so children can take ownership on a piece of work.

See teacher’s Information for guidelines on successfully integrating the IWB into the English curriculum.
