St. Clare’s school has pupils from over 16 different countries! These countries include Albania, Italy, Spain, Russia, Poland, India, Germany, The Philippines England, Romania, Georgia, Moldova, Congo and Ireland. Every year the school hosts an Intercultural Day at which the pupils from all the different nations present different facts about their country. Ms. Redmond helps the children in creating all the different displays. Parents also attended the day.
Siobhan Parkinson also attended the event. She is the current Laureate na nÓg. “Laureate na nÓg is a position awarded in Ireland once every two years to a distinguished writer or illustrator of children’s books. It was set up by the Arts Council of Ireland in 2010” (Wikipedia). During the year she also worked with the fifth class in creating their own books! That was an amazing experience for everyone involved and a real privilege. You should come to the school and read some of the amazing books.
Check out some of the other photos of the day here as well.
You can also listen to one pupil’s report on her stand for the Intercultural Day 2011.
We had a really exciting day yesterday. Thomas from a local pet shop visited us and he brought in tarantula, giant snails, a python, a blue tongued lizard and snake skins! He told us lots of different things about them and said that he would come back next year with lots of different spiders and reptiles. Check out some of the photos.
Last night second class wrote short stories about repitiles. You can listen to them here.
As you may already know Ms. Coen’s fourth class completed an amazing project on the Life Cycle of a Chicken before the Easter holidays. Blackrock Educational Centre were so impressed with Ms. Coen and her class project that they asked here to create a video to show other schools how she planned the project. You can read about other Blackrock Educational Centre projects also by checking our their Blackrock projects/resources link. Check out Ms. Coen’s video below.
I am a sixth class pupil who creates some logos for the school’s blogs.
I have recently created this one, for science day. It took me a while, but it was fun!
I created it with a drawing program called GIMP. It stands for GNU image manipulation program. That’s a mouthful! It’s like Adobe PhotoShop, but this is free and open source. Download it here.
There’s loads of documentation on this site, too, if you’re confused.
I disguised each letter as a different scientific thing. I really enjoyed making this.
Here it is:
